Fix for 0xC0000602 error
This fix only applies to FATXplorer v3.0 beta 33 and newer.
The FATXplorer executable is now marked as compatible with Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET) Shadow Stack. Some older versions of Windows have a bug that will cause FATXplorer to fail to launch without showing an error message. If you go into Windows Event Viewer and look for a FATXplorer error, you may see one with exception code 0xC0000602:
If you see this, here is how to fix it:
First, visit Windows Update and get all the latest updates. The primary cause of this error is an outdated version of Windows.
If you can’t get the latest updates for whatever reason or intentionally want to stay on an older Windows version, here is an alternative fix:
- Open the start menu and search for “Windows Security”.
- Go to “App and browser control” and then “Exploit protection settings”.
- Go to the “Program settings tab” and “Add program to customize”. Add program by name: FATXplorer.exe
- Scroll down to “Hardware-enforced Stack Protection”, check “Override system settings”, and make sure it’s Off.
- Apply the changes and FATXplorer should now launch.
